I’m not sure what’s happening to me but I’m going all faux on my holiday porch this year! I have nothing against faux, but we always get two real Christmas trees and I have always done fresh garland and fresh greenery on my porch. After doing a little research and shopping earlier in the season, the faux stuff keeps getting better and better! I decided that buying faux trees and garland this year would mean I could just reuse it year after year and I wouldn’t have to worry about the garland getting dried up. So, here is how to create a cozy holiday porch with faux trees and garland.
To start, we have a pretty large sized covered porch, so these items are mostly protected from the elements. I just painted the porch concrete a few weeks ago, so it’s looking extra fresh right now! Promise I will share this process. I did it very late in the fall and now it’s freezing here, so I’m not really sure this is on anyone’s radar right now! Many of these items might be out of stock or no longer available, but this post is just to inspire you with whatever trees and garland you have or can find!
Wreath + Large Bow
We are going to be out of town leading up to and on Christmas this year so I didn’t do our usual wreath in every window look. I still wanted to incorporate a large red bow on the porch though. So classic! This one is from Target and they also sold gold and pink this year. I have the pink one on our main Christmas tree inside. These come with a hook and a clip, so they are easy to hang.
The wreath is also faux! I’ve had it for a few years, but can’t remember exactly where it’s from. You can find a plain, faux green wreath anywhere this time of year. They seriously look real! I also think this bow could hang on it’s own on the door.
Faux Cedar Garland
I have always picked up fresh cedar garland from Costco or Home Depot to put on my front porch. This year, I purchased four strands of faux cedar garland. What sold me is that it seriously looks so real! Mine is from Joanne Fabrics, but I have linked other options here.
I highly suggest looking for garland in October/November to get the best stuff before it sells out! These garlands were inexpensive too! I attach the garland with two eye hooks in the top corners and let the rest fall/drape. I also bought three more of these to hang our my kitchen window this year.
Faux Pre-Lit Trees
I bought three new faux trees this year! One for our bedroom (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE) and two for the front porch. The larger tree is a sparse tree from Target. It sold out pretty quickly, but I linked similar looking sparse trees here. I love the minimal look with no decorations! The smaller tree is from At Home. It’s a 4 foot tree that looks pretty realistic. Both trees on the porch have warm white lights.
Tree Skirt + Basket
Our home is painted white with dark charcoal accents. I love the classic look of black and white, so I grabbed this striped rope tree skirt. I’m sure it’s going to get dirty at some point, but it was only $15! It fits perfectly around the base of this tree.
For the smaller tree, I went through my stash of decorative baskets (that I like to put indoor plants in), and found this one with the some texture and pattern. The tree it perfectly, it was meant to be! Again, our porch is covered and mostly protected from the elements.
Layered Rugs + Birch Logs
Adding layered rugs adds some cozy to a front porch! There are so many cute holiday coir mats and you can get a scatter rug basically anywhere. Here are some links to some front door mats and a scatter rug almost identical to mine for $10. The birch logs just lean and I found them at a local plant nursery (Family Tree for the locals).
I love the way this porch lights up at night! It feels very inviting and cozy, but still classic and “natural”. I’m happy I will have these every year to put out!
Some final comments about the rest of the items on the porch. Our front door info can be found here. I keep string lights up around the door all year long. All lights this time of year are set to a timer so I don’t ever have to think about it!
Our outdoor chandelier can be found here. We love it! I hope this helps give you some inspo on how to create a cozy holiday porch with faux trees and garland. I’m officially not scared of faux at Christmas anymore, but we will always get a real tree for inside! XO
