We had a Fourth of July get together and I wanted to bring something festive that I have never made before. After doing a little research, I landed on this easy snack mix. It’s very customizable, so I added red, white, and blue M&Ms for this occasion. This could be made any time of year with any colors of M&Ms and/or sprinkles, ingredients, etc. This is just a jumping off point! Here’s how to make a sweet and salty snack mix.
When I was searching for a recipe similar to this, they all called for different ingredients. I just picked the ones I knew we would like. Sometimes finding exact colored M&Ms can be hard, so you might have to buy a regular bag and pick out the colors you like! Because this is the 4th of July, I was able to find a bag of red, white, and blue. The white chocolate kind of masks the colors anyway, so sprinkles would work well. I wish I had some!
How to Make a Sweet and Salty Snack Mix
Ingredients
- 2.5 cups Honey Nut Cheerios
- 2.5 cups Corn Chex
- 1.5 cups pretzel sticks
- 1 cup M&Ms
- 1 cup peanuts
- 2.5 cups white chocolate baking chips
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Combine cereals, pretzels, peanuts, and M&Ms in a large bowl.
- In a separate bowl, melt the white chocolate and coconut oil in the microwave. Start with 30 seconds, stir. Keep going another 30 seconds and stir. Do this until melted.
- Pour melted chocolate over the dry ingredients and stir carefully until all pieces are coated.
- Cover a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Tip: roll up paper into a ball and then lay out flat on the baking sheet. This helps keep it flat! Pour mixture on to the baking sheet and spread out until mostly flat.
- Let set up at room temperature or put in the fridge for about 15-20 minutes to harden up.
- Once ready to serve, remove from fridge and break up into chunks/pieces. Add sprinkles or more M&Ms to provide a pop of color. I served mine in a bowl.
Once you start eating this, you literally can’t stop! Perfect for a large crowd. No utensils needed! You could easily add different cereals, nuts, etc to make this however you like. The key is the white chocolate coating that makes it so good!
As you can see, the white chocolate does mask the colors a little bit. I do think adding sprinkles is the way to go for an added touch and color! I hope you will try this sweet and salty snack mix for your next get together! XO
