We purchased a utility cart on wheels for my daughter’s room last year. It provides so much storage in her small-ish room! I love to organize and have a place for everything in our home, and this seemed like a perfect storage solution. They are also inexpensive and lightweight which makes them even more appealing. Here are 17 ways to use a utility cart in your home.
We decided to put her cart right next to her desk area so the actual desk space can be clear and all the stuff is next to it in the cart. After utilizing this cart in her room, I started brainstorming the many ways to use a utility cart all through a home! Now I think I need one in every room!
17 Ways to Use a Utility Cart
- Plant Cart – You could fit so many plants on one of these carts! Move them around to catch more light if needed. I think this could be done indoors or out!
- Dorm Room Storage – Dorm rooms are small! This cart would be perfect to hold food, school supplies, clothes, etc.
- Pantry/Kitchen Storage – I can envision veggies on one of these carts. Extra napkins and silverware, plates, snacks, etc
- Party Prep – Decorate and fill one of these for your next party! Add napkins, cups, plates, straws, drinks, decor.
- Craft Supplies – Add your paints and brushes and scrapbook paper and glue and scissors and all the things to one of these! Items like this clustered together makes a visual art piece!
- Classroom Storage – Calling all teachers! How perfect for a classroom! Fill with necessary supplies for you or for your students! Easily wheeled around your classroom for convenience!
- Bathroom Product Storage – Short on bathroom space? Add a cart to hold toilet paper, hair tools, lotions, hair products, makeup, towels, etc!

- Toy Storage – These look so cute in a kid’s room! Add toys, notebooks, stuffed animals, etc. I love when kids know where to put their things! It makes everyone’s life easier!
- Baby Storage – Use next to your changing pad to store diapers, wipes, creams, white noise machines, a lamp , etc! I love this idea!

Make Up, Hair, and Jewelry Storage
Since writing this original post in 2020, my daughter is now a teenager and she is thankfully back to school after covid. We realized that the utility cart would better be used in her small bathroom area to contain all of her things. Teenage girls have lots of things!
The top section holds makeup and makeup tools, the middle holds lotions, earrings, and miscellaneous things. Curling irons, straighteners, etc are in the bottom sections. This little cart can hold so much!
Updated 2024
My daughter is now 15 years old and still uses her utility cart! You can see we added tile to the bathroom area which has been a huge upgrade. We moved it into the shower area of her Jack and Jill bath and it’s used for hair tools and overflow of makeup, products, etc. This year, we added some corner storage to her sink area which has helped contain all the stuff as well! Read about that here.
These carts are inexpensive, can easily be moved around, they are easy to clean, and fit into small spaces. The perfect mix of form and function. Shop this white utility cart here.
