We recently stayed at an Airbnb in Eugene, OR (our first time ever)! This particular situation actually had us staying with the owners of the home in two of their bedrooms. Think of it like a bed and breakfast. The hosts made breakfast for us each morning and it was all so delicious. One of the items offered every morning was yogurt, fresh fruit, honey, and homemade granola. It was such a treat! I decided on that trip that I would come home and make some homemade granola, which I’ve never done before. Inspiration is everywhere! Now I’m not sure I can ever buy store-bought again! Here’s how to make homemade maple nut granola your family will love.

This recipe was adapted from Vanilla and Bean blog.
How to Make Homemade Maple Nut Granola
Ingredients:
- 3 cups rolled oats
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup pepitas
- 1/2 cup slivered almonds
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup avocado oil
- 1/2 cup real maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (liquid or vanilla bean paste)

Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 275 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Add oats, nuts, salt, and cinnamon to a bowl and combine.
- Next, mix together avocado oil, syrup, and vanilla.
- Pour over dry ingredients and mix well.
- Add granola to the baking sheet in a flat, even layer.
- Bake granola for 1 hour at 275 degrees. After 1 hour, turn the oven temp to 300 degrees and bake for an additional 20 minutes. Be careful not to burn! You just want it golden. Your house will smell fragrant!
- Leave granola on the baking sheet to completely cool before breaking into pieces and storing in an air-tight container. I use two mason jars.
You could use whichever mix of nuts you like! This is what I had on hand and we loved the combo.

The original recipe called for coconut oil instead of avocado oil. I’m not a huge coconut person, so I substituted the oil.

Make sure every inch is coated with the wet mixture!

This granola takes a while in the oven because the temps are low. Your house will smell so good though!! After it has completely cooled, the granola will break off into chunks for easy storage. The light golden color is so pretty and it has the perfect crunch.

This recipe fills two large mason jars and lasts for up to 3 weeks if stored properly. It never lasts long at our house though! You can also customize this granola however you like! Add different nuts, add dried fruit (after baking), add chocolate chunks, etc.

My husband said this is hands down the best granola he has ever had! Perfect for yogurt bowls or just a handful to snack on if you need a little something sweet. The touch of cinnamon and maple combined with the toasted nuts makes this extra delicious! I think this could make a great homemade gift as well. Let me know if you try this homemade maple nut granola – you won’t be disappointed! XO
