My 16 year old son is sneaker obsessed! My husband started him on this who is equally obsessed. We found a vertical shelf for his room that is perfect for sneaker storage. The shoes on the shelf sort of create a piece of art in his room, as the sneakers are colorful and fun to look at. I guess you could consider this a win/win as far as form and function and organization! Here’s how to use an IKEA Lack Wall Shelf as Sneaker Storage.
IKEA Lack Wall Shelf
We live in Kansas City and have an IKEA store nearby. I picked up this Lack Shelf after my son did some research on a shelf that would fit in this corner of his room. If you don’t live near an IKEA, you can have it shipped to you or you can order from Amazon (this option is more expensive though). When I have searched other options similar to this one, they are all about half the length, so I couldn’t find a great substitute. I think the nice thing about the IKEA one is that it is tall/high. It’s narrow enough that it doesn’t take up a ton of space.
- My son built this all on his own in little time. My son is 16 years old, we didn’t secure it to the wall, (but it does come with hardware to do so).
- This shelf comes in black, wood, and white tones.
- The shelf could hold seven pairs of sneakers.
- Assemble the shelf and place it vertical or horizontal.
- Can be easily dusted with a microfiber cloth.
- The shelf feels secure on this low pile carpet in our home.
Misc Items
The bench in his room is old from Target. A good place to sit and put on your sneakers!
The sneaker rug was a hand made find at a sneaker convention in Kansas City.
The wall art is from our travels to Japan in Nov 2023. A fun little corner in a teenage boy’s room!
Don’t forget the plants, even in kid’s rooms! Plants add so much life to a space.
If you are looking for sneaker storage, I hope this post on how to use an IKEA Lack Wall Shelf as sneaker storage was helpful! I told my son he has to sell old pairs before he gets any new ones because we will run out of space! XO
