I’ve been decorating our front porch this way for literally years! You just can’t mess with classic! When we had our house painted white a few years ago, the porch looks even more pretty and classic with the touches of green and red. This look is all about fresh greens and cheesy red bows. Here’s our class holiday front porch.
Fresh Greenery
I use faux garland inside, but always try to keep fresh greenery outside. Fresh is so pretty, but it made a mess indoors. Outside, it feels appropriate! The wreath is faux though!
- Cedar Garland – I use one strand of this cedar garland around the front door. Once 17-20ft strand is perfect for this space. I use small white eye hooks in the corners to secure the garland. Literally, two eye hooks. That’s it! I always get asked about this! The rest of it just hangs and flows. This year, my garland is from Home Depot. I have gotten it at Costco before as well. It’s the same stuff at both places and similar price (less than $20).
- Fraser Fir Trees – These are real, mini Christmas trees! I purchased these at Lowes for around $30 each. Drop them in whatever pots you have on hand and keep standing water in them so they stay hydrated. These are easy and will last through January (for a winter look). I added these battery operated lights to make them festive at night. My white planter pots are years old from Target.
- Fresh Stems Planter – You can purchase stems at most garden stores. I bought two bunches of stems and brought home clippings from our real Christmas tree and threw them in a pot. Literally stuff them in a planter! You can add water to the bottom of these as well. I threw in some silver ball “sticks” for some shine (also purchased at Lowe’s). Add some birch sticks for height and dimension and texture. You can buy these short birch sticks at most garden centers.
I always spray my fresh greens with a wilt stop spray. Just spray and walk away!
Layered Rugs
There are so many cute holiday mats on the market each year! They are inexpensive too. I have reused this simple one for years since it only gets set out for a short time. The rug underneath is not outdoor, but we have a covered porch. It’s from Homegoods.
Wreath with Red Bow
You can read all about how to add a wreath on every window in this post. To keep up with that look, I add a faux (cheap) wreath to the front door. The red bow (also cheap) is longer than the rest of the windows for a little added drama. These red bows scream classic holiday to me! I reuse the same cheap wreaths over and over again. The bows need replaced every year or two because they are exposed to the elements. You can find these cheap red bows at almost any craft store, but buy them early because they sell out!
Lanterns + Candles + Birch Sticks + String Lights
These lanterns are from Walmart and they are affordable! I love them! The candles are battery operated and you can find them on Amazon, Walmart, Homegoods, basically anywhere.
The tall birch sticks are from a local garden center. I keep these on the porch in fall and winter. They just lean against the house and provide some layering, texture, and dimension.
I keep string lights around the door all year long set to a timer. Our front door is always lit up! These hang on those same white eye hooks that the garland hangs from. String lights are an easy and inexpensive way to make your porch festive. Our exact ones can be found here.
Seating Area
Black wooden rockers + black/white striped pillows stay out here all year long. I never have to think about these pillows because the black/white goes with every season and they are 100% my style. The sun does hit our porch so I have to replace these pillows every few years. You can find the exact pillows here.
We add an additional strand of string lights around the windows for the holidays. The fresh stem planter goes between the rockers.
I hope you enjoyed our classic holiday front porch. I love a pop of red on a home this time of year! The best part is, I will just remove the red after the holidays and everything else can stay for winter. Happy Holidays! XO
