Steve and I had a charity function to go to this month and the theme was “Grease”. Of course, this could go many ways, but we landed on doing Sandy and Danny because we had almost everything already in our closets! I just had to order some red shoes to complete my look. Steve has the hair already and I just had to curl mine up really well. This is a fun and easy costume to pull off for any dress up occasion because it’s so identifiable. Here’s how to create a grease-themed couples costume.
Sandy’s Look
This is so easy because most women likely have a black shirt and black leggings in their closet! I used faux leather ones here because I already had them. Regular black leggings will work too. In case you need some of these items, I linked them all here. All Amazon if you’re in a time crunch!
- Black leggings
- Red shoes
- Black shirt (off the shoulder looks best)
- Black belt
- Red lipstick
- Black sunglasses
- Curled hair or blonde wig
- Leather moto jacket
- Red Nails
End of movie Sandy is such a fun costume to wear! Any excuse to wear a bright red lip all night is so good!
Men’s Greaser Look
Steve already has the “look” to pull of a greaser without having to try too hard! Ha! 100% of his costume is items from his closet so we didn’t spend any money. Most men have jeans and a black tee shirt in their wardrobe. You could go with a zip up bomber type sweater or jacket, or go with a leather jacket. Throw some “grease” in you hair to make it look slicked/wet.
- Hair gel
- Black jacket (bomber, sweater, leather)
- Jeans (be sure to roll them)
- White socks
- Black sneakers (Steve already had these leather converse in his closet)
- Fake cigarettes
- Black sunglasses
Some of our friends found fake cigarettes on Amazon that were so fun to complete the greaser look. I’ve linked the along with other items here!
Other Grease Costume Ideas
This event was fun because everyone dressed up in a Grease-themed costume. We saw Pink Ladies, Rydell High sweaters, lots of Sandy, one Beauty School lady. My dark-haired bestie went as Rizzo, and her costume was so good! What a fun theme!
Everyone as more fun when dressed up! I think costumes pulled together with what you already have look great! Also think thrift stores, borrow from friends, etc. Piecing items together takes more effort than buying a pre-made costume, but I think you can tell a difference! We danced the night away to a great 80’s band, so we hit all the decades in one night! Again, if you need any items, I have linked some here. I hope this helps with how to create a Grease-themed couples costume. XO
