I think this is my favorite couples costume ever! Who doesn’t love a good Cousin Eddie moment? This is a very common couples costume. I was able to get many of the items at a thrift store, which makes the look a little more authentic. Shopping for this costume was actually really fun because I love shopping for treasures! Here’s how to create a cousin Eddie and Catherine couples costume. I also have links to items if you’re in a time crunch and don’t want to thrift shop.
Cousin Eddie’s Look
This is the most fun and most iconic Cousin Eddie look – the robe! I was able to find a white robe at a thrift store. The hat is an inexpensive Amazon find. Steve wore his one black socks and shoes and used a cigar as a prop. I think the key to really making this look authentic is the orange pipe. Steve works for a company that happens to have some of these parts in their possession, so this was easy for him to grab. You can find something similar online.

Don’t forget to play the role! Ha! Steve is always such a good sport with dressing up. He got into character with this one.
Catherine’s Look
Of course Catherine is not as iconic as Cousin Eddie, but paired together, this costume works well. I chose the outfit from when they first arrive in the movie. She’s dressed in a winter coat, hat, scarf. I started with the tan pea coat, which I already owned, and thrifted everything else.
- Wig with bangs (or curl your hair if you already have the look)
- Knit scarf and hat
- Tan coat
- Christmas pin
- I wore leggings and boots randomly on the bottom

Overall, this couples costume is really easy to pull together! I’m sure you have some items to reuse or you could ask your friends for items. Or search at thrift stores. If you are in a pinch, you can find items here on Amazon.
