Easy Garage Storage Using the Rubbermaid FastTrack System

We live in a suburban home with a three car garage. It works hard for us! Our kids have grown up in this house and are now teenagers. Over the years we have had all the things to store in the garage. Think bikes, scooters, sports equipment, toys, games, etc. I also enjoy doing yard work and gardening and we store tools and equipment in the garage. Early on, we knew we needed a storage solution for all the things, especially to get items off the floor. Here’s how we incorporate easy garage storage using the Rubbermaid FastTrack system.

What is the Rubbermaid FastTrack System

We stumbled upon this FastTrack system at Lowe’s and Steve thought it would be easy to install. It’s so customizable for your needs. Basically, it’s a metal bar you screw into the wall. The black “track” slices over that. Once the black track is in place, they sell various sizes and shapes of hooks, baskets, ball bins, etc. You can find a gadget for almost everything you want to hang!

You can purchase the starter kit with items already included or you can buy in individual pieces. Shown here, you can above that we used two tracks on top of each other in the third car stall. Vertical storage space is where it’s at! It is an upfront cost depending on what your needs are. We have found this garage storage system to be worth the money ten fold. I love that the system is narrow, so we can still fit cars in the garage next to the items.

Storing Longer Items on the FastTrack System

On the other side of the garage, we store larger/longer items on the FastTrack system. Depending on the type of hook you purchase, you can fit several items on one by stacking in front of each other. You will definitely have to play around with the items you want to store to get the right attachment, but I promise there is an attachment for everything!

I think I love this system the most because everything has a place. If you’ve been following for any length of time, you know my love for organization and everything having a place. We know exactly where to go in the garage to find things we need! It’s such a time saver.

Using Baskets and Ball Bins for Storage

Our kids are starting to grow out of a lot of kid stuff in the garage. We even got rid of all of our bikes to make room for a third car for the teenage drivers. I know it’s not popular, but we never rode our bikes and they were bulky to store. The baskets and ball storage in this FastTrack system have been amazing! They are sturdy, accessible, and everything has a place.

Different Types of Attachments for Garage Storage

We’ve already talked about the baskets and ball bins. Here are some additional photos of how we use the system for storing random items. These long attachments are great for bulky tools.

We even store our heavy wagon and extra chairs on these long attachments. The system is very sturdy and secure! You can literally put this fast track anywhere. Here we have a track underneath a shelving unit. Using the vertical space to get things off the ground is the key!

Easy Garage Storage for Sports Bags

We also use the Rubbermaid FastTrack system to store sports bags. This has been a total game changer in terms of organization and everything having a place. The kids know exactly where to put their items and exactly where to find them. I also store my weighted vest (for walking) on a hook out here. Its awkward and heavy and this is the perfect space for it.

I also added storage right underneath for cleats, mowing shoes, bulky winter boots, etc. You can find those exact double tier shoe racks here. The tracks can be used as one shorter one (as seen with the sports bags). Or you can place them side by side to create a longer track system.

Where to Purchase the Rubbermaid FastTrack System

Over the years we have added more tracks as our needs changed. We actually just added a third car to our family and we are tweaking some things as I write this. As the kids have gotten older, we don’t need as many baskets and we will be taking the ball bin from two to one. It’s so easy to just remove or add as needed in literally seconds!

You can find links to the system here. And more links here. I know Lowes and Home Depot both have this system in store if you are a visual person and want to see all the different options.

Not pictured in this post, but we also have other storage solutions in our garage. We have two metal shelving units that store pots, tools, coolers, and other miscellaneous items. Steve installed two wire shelves hanging to store towels, blankets, camping equipment, spray paint, soil, yard things, etc. Our garage has a full size fridge for extra drinks, a lawn mower, trash and recycling bins and 3 parked cars! I told you it works hard for us. And yes, very grateful we live in a home with three stalls (to store all of our crap)! Ha!

We still have a wishlist of things to do in the garage. First up, I’d love to paint or have the garage painted. It basically looks striped which drives me nuts. The thought of taking everything off the walls at this point makes my head spin though. I would love to eventually do something with the floors too, but for now it functions for our family.

I hope you found this easy garage storage using Rubbermaid FastTrack system to be helpful in planning your own garage organization! XO
