After we finished our kitchen reno in 2022, I wanted to really streamline the entire space. To only have what we use often on the countertops and behind cabinets and in drawers. Aside from wanting things streamlined, I also wanted the space to be visually appealing and functional. Here’s how to organize around the kitchen sink area. This system allows me to have things at my fingertips, while still be aesthetically pleasing. I shot this first photo in early January and I’m leaving up these star lights and this winter wreath for a few more weeks! A few things have been tweaked as you can see in later photos (updated 2023).
Dish Drying Rack
Several months ago I got rid of my bulky drying rack that sat outside the sink. I switched over to this foldable drying rack that rolls over the top of the sink. It’s way less cumbersome and can be rolled back easily. This was one of my favorite swaps I made in the kitchen. This drying rack comes in different sizes based on your sink size.
Countertop Spray + Soap Storage
Things I use every single day: dish soap, hand soap, countertop spray. I knew I wanted these items “out” and not underneath the cabinet. In order to make them aesthetically pleasing, I switched to amber glass vessels to make them streamlined. I found a marble tray that holds all three of the bottles to sort of keep them contained as well. You can shop all of these kitchen countertop favorites here.
The spray bottle holds countertop/all purpose spray. We can only use very mild cleaner on our quartzite countertops, so it’s just a mixture of Dawn + water.
The dish soap dispenser is Dawn and the hand soap is whatever hand soap you love. When I am doing dishes, I simply pump Dawn onto my scrubber. It works great for me!
Dish Scrubber + Sponge Storage
More things I use every single day: a dish scrubber and a sponge. Same as the soap and spray, I wanted this area to still look nice since it would be sitting out. I just added a stone appetizer plate to hold these items. Think outside the box here when you’re looking for something to contain items (small plates/bowls, small tray, candle holder, etc).
If you don’t have a scraper in your life, get one! I use this on pots/pans, dishes, countertops, etc!
These neutral sponges work for me. I know people are picky about what they use to clean their spaces. I have always used a sponge.
This dish scrubber looks nice and works great! As I said before, I just add a few pumps of Dawn when I use this. It dries out well on my little dish.
Paper Towel Holder
I know many people like to hide paper towels. Again, under the sink or hidden would annoy me, so I just leave them out on a pretty holder. This brass one has been great!
I hope it is helpful to see how to organize around the kitchen sink area for optimal function. Keeping things neutral and streamlined keeps the area from looking cluttered!
