I have made the same buffalo chicken dip recipe for years, and then my husband tried a different one at a tailgate recently, and we haven’t looked back! The woman that made the dip from the tailgate sent me the “pin”. After tweaking a few things slightly, we have a new recipe that the whole family loves! I made it for a football watch party recently and it was gone so fast. If you’re looking for a healthy buffalo chicken dip recipe, this isn’t the one – ha! Here’s how to easily make the best homemade buffalo chicken dip.
I feel like every delicious appetizer starts with a brick of cream cheese, am I right?! This dip recipe is no exception! Of course, you can use any type of chicken for these recipes, but I find cutting up a rotisserie chicken is easiest. They provide a lot of flavor in addition to being easy to prep. Most buffalo chicken dip recipes call for some sort of variation of all of these ingredients. The consistency and flavor combinations of this recipe are just spot on! Not too hot, but with all the flavor.

The Best Homemade Buffalo Chicken Dip
Ingredients
- about 3 cups cooked chicken (I use rotisserie chicken to keep it easy)
- 8 oz softened cream cheese (I use full fat but you could use light)
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup hot sauce (we like Frank's Red Hot and you could add a little more of this if you like it spicy)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (use any you like or have on hand)
- 1/4 cup ranch dressing of choice
- 1/4 cup chopped green onion (this is an optional garnish on top)
- chips, veggies, bread, crackers to dip
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together chicken, cream cheese, sour cream, hot sauce, 1 cup cheese, and ranch dressing.
- Spread in a casserole or baking dish and top with remaining cheese.
- Bake uncovered, at 350 degrees, for about 25 minutes.
- Serve with chips, bread, crackers, veggies, etc!
It couldn’t be more easy to throw together. It’s absolutely fail-proof! This dip will not last long when served to guests! Best served hot and bubbly, but also reheats well. I think leftovers of this dip could be fantastic as a “grilled cheese”!
