With July 4th coming up, I wanted to share this simple DIY from last summer. I say DIY but it’s actually just putting two items together to create a festive door hanging! Last summer, I found this cute USA pennant online. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it, but eventually decided on a front door hanging. The summer of 2024 was also the year of the summer Olympics, so I kept it out longer than usual. This pennant looks classic and I always love a touch of red, white, and blue! Here’s how to create a patriotic front door hanging.

A Festive Pennant or Hanging
I saw this felt pennant online last year and loved it! It’s sturdy and stiff felt, which I love for adding to a front door. Please note that our front door is covered by a covered porch so our door hangings and wreaths do not get hit by the elements. I’m having a hard time finding the exact one I have, but have linked some similar from the same place I purchased mine. The expect the quality to be the exact same! I also added a few other options that I think could be cute. Click here for affiliate links. Find the Celebrate Everything pennant here.

Festive Ribbon Bundle
I snagged this ribbon bundle last year and they have it again this year! It’s only $5! Add this to anything to make it festive for patriotic holidays, etc. You can even forego a pennant and just add to whatever green wreath you already have. I simply tied the extra ribbon around the ribbon that came with the pennant at the top. This makes it seem like it’s all one piece and supposed to be there. The ribbons sort of hide the wooden dowel that is attache to the pennant as well.

How to Hang
I used a simple metal door hanger and tied the ribbons around the bottom of the door hanger (as seen above). Be sure to secure this tight. The ribbons blowing in the breeze is really festive and whimsical! This year I’m using a red door hanger that I found in my Christmas stash!

You could certainly use this in any way, not just for a door. This patriotic front door hanging is perfect for Memorial day, July 4th, the Olympics, Flag Day, or really any time. I think it looks summery and festive and classic. The cutest little front door touch!
