My Review of the LG French Door Smart Refrigerator

I’m hoping to provide some content for the internet that I wish existed when I was searching for certain things! Every time I share any photos or video from our new refrigerator, I get questions. So, here is my review of the LG French Door Smart Refrigerator. The final verdict is that we absolutely love it!

Researching a New Fridge

Because we had not been in the market for a fridge for 10 years, we had to start from scratch. We decided to just go to the experts and talked to sales people at Best Buy and Home Depot. I also looked at reviews online of the different brands of refrigerators and polled my readers on my instagram stories. LG appliances kept coming up and the reviews were stellar. We had the nicest sales guy at Best Buy help us. He went over all the things to think about, some of which we had not thought about! At the time of purchase, Best Buy had the oven and fridge we decided on in stock and could be delivered in a timely manner. We decided to go for it and ended up with the LG French Door Smart Refrigerator.

Best Buy did the install of our new fridge and helped us take the old fridge to the garage and get it set up.

Deciding on Style/Type:

Side by Side or French Door

The fridge we had in our kitchen for 10 years was a side by side fridge. I remember when we were choosing that one that the sales person said it’s about 50/50 if people prefer side by side or French door fridge/freezer. It was fine and nothing was wrong with it, but we decided to upgrade our appliances when we recently did a kitchen renovation. Our previous fridge was relocated to the garage, so we have tons of storage! We decided to go with the French door option. It feels more modern and I really like the idea of a large fridge area at eye level.

Counter Depth or Standard Depth

Our old side by side fridge was a standard depth. The cabinet where the fridge slides in is counter depth so there several inches of fridge sticking our into the walkway in front of it. We decided on a counter depth fridge this time around. It’s a little smaller in capacity, but it sits more flush against the cabinets, which visually looks SO MUCH BETTER! We were amazed at how much getting a few inches back would make the space look bigger! You can see here it’s not perfectly flush, but it’s so much better than standard depth.

Water Dispenser on Outside or Inside

This was a decision I never even knew I needed to make! We considered both, but ultimately decided the inside water dispenser took up too much room on the inside and we wanted the access on the outside as we use it so often. This is just a personal preference. I’m so happy we went with our gut and got the water dispenser on the exterior.

The first thing we noticed about the water dispenser is that the water comes out so much harder and faster than our old fridge! We can fill up water bottles so much faster now!

Regular and Craft Ice

A bonus of this particular fridge is that is has two ice makers! Regular ice cubes are made in the top left door of the fridge and craft ice balls are made in the freezer. I never wanted this nor even knew it existed, but I can tell you we are obsessed with the craft ice!! Perfect for filling large jugs of water and the perfect ice for a cocktail!

The regular ice maker holder is a little hard to get in and out, but we don’t take it out very often. It’s a slim design. And the craft ice fills slower than the regular ice, so we usually go through them quickly! We are never waiting on ice though, but is great.

LG Reridgerator Compartments

You will find slim trays on the left side in front of the ice maker. As you can see, ours are not even full! We have extra storage in the garage fridge. I also go to the store often and don’t “overbuy”, so our fridge isn’t packed.

There is a fruit bin, veggie, bin, and a meat and cheese drawer.

Freezer Compartments in our LG Refrigerator:

The freezer on the bottom has three different levels that kind of tuck inside of each other. Perfect for storing items of different sizes. We also have a full size fridge and freezer in the garage, which helps with overflow. I try to remove boxes and place loose items in the top narrow shelf, which helps with bulky items taking up space. You can see the craft ice is on the top shelf in the freezer.

Things I Love About Our LG Refrigerator:

  1. The lights are bright! I love this! It feels clean and modern to me.
  2. There is a beeping noise that starts if the doors are left open to alert you. These doors are heavy because they hold the ice and have large compartments for condiments, etc. We have left the doors open often and the beeping is helpful!
  3. The storage compartments on the side door are huge! I can fit so much stuff in them. I also love the slim meat/cheese drawer.
  4. Mentioned before, but the water dispenses quickly.
  5. The stainless exterior is easy to clean! I use the same cleaner I use on my countertops which is a little Dawn + water.
  6. Craft ice is an extra added bonus!
  7. I can see everything! This is different from our side by side when things would get shoved to the back!

I hope my review of the LG French Door Smart Refrigerator was helpful if you are in the market! Let me know if you have any more questions. Xo
