The Look of Wall Trim on a Large Wall

Our primary bedroom has been going through a bit of a mini-makeover. We started with removing the carpet and adding hardwood floors. The next project that I wanted done was to add wall trim to a large wall behind our bed. Our primary bedroom is huge! Adding this wall trim has brought some architecture and coziness to this large space. We could not be happier with how it turned out! Keep scrolling to see the look of wall trim on a large wall.

Choosing a Wall Trim Design

There are so many different types of wall trim idea circulating around on Pinterest and Instagram. I knew that I wanted to stick with a classic and simple design. I’m not much of a trendy home design person, and I never want to tire of this wall treatment, so sticking with the classics is the way to go for me. Ultimately, I decided on simple box trim and started adding images to a Pinterest board. Are you still using Pinterest! Ten years later, I still use it daily! It ensures I never lose any design inspo!

DIY Project or Hire It Out?

We don’t own the tools or have the expertise to do this project on our own. In doing my research on type of design I wanted, I came across some peel and stick wall trim. I was thinking this would be feasible with the help of my husband. This still required MATH (ugh!) and time!

When I started asking around on my Instagram stories for ideas on who could help do a project like this, I came across Home Accents By Morgan. This is a woman-owned, local business in Kansas City, so I reached out to her. It turns out, I could get this wall treatment completed for about the same as it would cost me to order the peel and stick treatment. SOLD!

The Wall Before

We have painted and added hardwood floors to this space. This large wall is what you see directly down the hallway of our second floor. It’s just a large, blank, white wall that needed some attention!

The Process

When you hire out, the process is easy for the homeowner, ha! I contacted Morgan and she asked me to give her some rough dimensions of the wall. She also asked for a photo of the wall and some inspiration photos of what I wanted. Next, she came out to get exact measurements with her fancy tools! The next day, her team came out to complete the project. I opted not to have them paint the wall when finished with the trim so this only took part of a day. They will paint for you if you want that though! I already had a full gallon of paint for this wall and I knew I could do it quickly, so I decided to save money on that part.

The team was so great to work with! I’m so happy they were the ones figuring out the spacing and making things even and not me! They set up a table saw outside near the garage to cut the trim pieces. There was no mess and it was easy!

Prepping and Painting The Wall and Trim

Because I opted to paint myself, there was a little prep work before I got started. The markings they made in pencil came off easily with a magic eraser and a little elbow grease.

Morgan advised me to prime the wall to cover any dark nail holes. I had some white primer in my stash and did a quick coat of primer and let it dry.

After the primer was dry, I added one coat of paint in the color Swiss Coffee. Swiss Coffee is a warm white that works well with our creamy trim. I used a paint brush to paint the wall trim and a smaller roller for the rest of the wall.

The Wall After Adding the Trim

I’m truly amazed and blown away at how much coziness this wall trim adds to the space! Like floored! Steve and the kids were shocked how different the room looked with only adding then pieces of wall trim. It’s like a different space altogether! This is another one of those projects that is low cost/time commitment for a HUGE return. Now I want every wall in my home to have box trim added to it! Bringing attention to this wall makes the room feel smaller and cozier.

Now I won’t even add any artwork behind the bed. Adding wall trim to this large wall is artwork in and of itself! It speaks for itself. I’m all about adding textures and layers to a space, so this feels like a perfect addition to our home. XO
