This is the 8th summer we’ve created a chalkboard summer fun list! No matter how old our kids get (currently 12 and 11), they still want to make one and I love it! Mostly, they want to play with their friends but I told them we are still doing “stuff” together! I can hardly believe it’s been this many years. Here’s how to create a chalkboard summer bucket list.
I painted this wall in chalk paint right after we moved in over 8 years ago. It took two coats of paint and very little time. It’s a statement wall and I’ll never tire of it! This year (still dealing with Covid-19) we decided to keep the list easy and manageable and mostly outdoors!
An artist I am not (!), but I like to come up with something a little different each year to keep it fresh and interesting. It’s always a fun project for me. I use regular cheap sidewalk chalk and cheap chalk sticks to create the chalkboards!
To clean the chalkboard, I use dish soap and water on an old rag and work it around in circular motions. I go right behind it with an old dry towel. I usually have to repeat this process two, sometimes three times, in order to the get black restored. Using saturated colors makes this process longer!
I have repainted the chalk wall once since I first painted it. It’s pretty low maintenance, especially when we post “bucket lists”, because they stay up for months at a time!
The kids and I decided we would tag along on a last minute road trip to Colorado with my parents this summer! I’m itching to travel and get away! I’ll go anywhere and do anything at this point. I hope you have some fun stuff planned for the summer! Hard to believe it’s the end of June already! XO
