How to Clean a Stainless Steel Sink

We have a stainless steel kitchen sink. I love it because it’s durable, but it can start to look really dirty after a while! Wanting to give it a good cleaning, I researched the best method. Here is a before shot of what our sink looked like.  Of course, I “clean” the sink, but I wanted to do a deep cleaning of the stainless.  You can see the discoloration below. Here are the steps for how to clean a stainless steel sink!

Step One:

Rinse the sink with water so it becomes wet.  Shake baking soda all over the sink.

Step Two:

Next, without running any water, scrub the sink with a non-abrasive scrubber. I keep this one from Walmart under my sink for cleaning.  Look how quickly this started working!  I’m excited and grossed out all at the same time.

Step Three:

After you have scrubbed, spray vinegar all over the sink. You can add this right on top of the gunk you have already scraped off.  The vinegar acts as a disinfectant.  I find it really handy to just keep a spray bottle of vinegar under the sink too.

Final Step for Cleaning a Stainless Steel Sink:

After spraying the vinegar, it is time to rinse! That’s it! Now you can easily clean your stainless steel sink whenever you need to with non-harmful ingredients you already have on hand! Cheap and easy, I love it. Look at that shine!

Updated 2023: We have a remodeled kitchen now and I still use this method even though we don’t have a stainless steel sink! The same method works for deep cleaning the sink and the sink tray we now have!
