How I Found the Perfect Vintage Bar Cart

A few weeks ago, Steve, the kids and I went shopping in the West Bottoms on my birthday.  This is an old part of town in Kansas City that has been revived with shops and food. It’s become sort of an experience on the first Friday weekends in Kansas City. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday, so we were off for coffee and vintage shopping!  And, the best part is, I scored a great piece! Here’s how I found the perfect vintage bar cart.

What We Were Looking For

We have been in search of the right piece for our dining room niche for several months.  I wanted to get something just right. And I decided I would try to look for something that was not made of wood to keep the texture in the space interesting.  We already have a built-in buffet wooden piece in our kitchen area where I store my china, glasses, etc, so I didn’t really need a lot of closed-off storage space.

Finding this Vintage Bar Cart

While shopping at the West Bottoms, I turned the corner in one particular booth and saw a bunch of stuff being displayed on top of this bar cart.  My eyes and feet went directly to the cart but did not have a price on it. The woman in the booth was hesitant to say it was for sale when I asked about it. I think I begged and pleaded and told her it was my birthday!

She told me she was considering taking it back to her house! Noooooo! In the end, she knew I was interested and asked if I would pay $95 for it.  SOLD, SOLD, SOLD!  She told me she was giving me a huge deal and she said it must be my lucky day because she could have sold it 100 times over that weekend. I was trying to play it cool when she said the price…happy birthday to me! Sometimes things just “work out” how they are supposed to.

This vintage bar cart is large and heavy with brass and glass. It has three glass shelves, curved handles, and it’s on wheels! I could go on and on about how much I love this piece. It does not fill up the niche in the space, but it is still a great size.  I will probably add a large plant/tree next to it and a large piece of artwork above it.

Styling Inspo

Next up is styling this bar cart.  Here are a few inspiration photos that I am loving (all photos via Pinterest).  I love all the color and texture these bar carts add to a space! I want our vintage bar cart to be fun, colorful, and full of personality.

The dining room is still coming together and I am okay with that.  I much prefer a thought out space, that evolves over time, that I really love, rather than a thrown together room that I half love. I hope you reading about how I found the perfect vintage bar cart for our dining room! Good luck in your searching. XO
