Our Front Door Painted Blue

Our home is very brown and monochromatic. We decided to change up the front door color to give our home a little personality. This pop of color is just what our house needed!  I love a painted front door so much. This door will change over the course of our life here, but for now we are happy with it. Here’s our front door painted blue.

2021 Update: We replaced this door a few years ago with a glass panel door. Click here to see it!

Here is a short journey of the front door. Our home is very neutral with stone one the front. The door was originally the darkest accent color on the house, a dark mushroom color. It just kind of went away and felt a little dark under the covered porch.

Choosing a Paint Color

I only tried two samples and immediately decided on Valspar Woodlawn Juniper (the top color).  It is bold and bright, but still saturated and rich enough to not look teal or baby blue-ish. I chose semi-gloss sheen for durability.

You all know I love blue, so this seemed like a natural first door color choice for me!  I love the way the black hardware and new house numbers now pop off the door.

The Process of Painting a Door

First, I cleaned the door with mild soap and water. Next, I applied three coats of paint, letting each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next. I used a small foam roller for the door and a small brush to work around the hardware. Painting a door is so easy and so inexpensive. I only used a quart of paint and still have some leftover. The power of paint!

What do you have to lose with painting your front door?  We have recently updated the house numbers too. Hope you enjoyed seeing our front door painted blue! What is your door color? XO
