Our home is very brown and monochromatic. We decided to change up the front door color to give our home a little personality. This pop of color is just what our house needed! I love a painted front door so much. This door will change over the course of our life here, but for now we are happy with it. Here’s the look of a front door painted blue.
2021 Update: We replaced this door a few years ago with a glass panel door. Click here to see it!
Here is a short journey of the front door. Our home is very neutral with stone one the front. The door was originally the darkest accent color on the house, a dark mushroom color. It just kind of went away and felt a little dark under the covered porch.
Choosing a Paint Color
I only tried two samples and immediately decided on Valspar Woodlawn Juniper (the top color). It is bold and bright, but still saturated and rich enough to not look teal or baby blue-ish. I chose semi-gloss sheen for durability.
You all know I love blue, so this seemed like a natural first door color choice for me! I love the way the black hardware and new house numbers now pop off the door.
The Process of Painting a Door
First, I cleaned the door with mild soap and water. Next, I applied three coats of paint, letting each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next. I used a small foam roller for the door and a small brush to work around the hardware. Painting a door is so easy and so inexpensive. I only used a quart of paint and still have some leftover. The power of paint!
What do you have to lose with painting your front door? We have recently updated the house numbers too. Hope you enjoyed seeing our front door painted blue! What is your door color? XO

Visiting from Southern Savvy Style. Love that blue! I painted our doors last year and it's not quite the shade I was going for, so I'm painting them again the next few weeks… I may have to give this color a try. You're right – it's an easy change with a big impact.
Thank you ladies and thanks for stopping by! It was one of those National Historic Restoration colors, so I knew it had to be good for an exterior color! 🙂
Looks awesome! LOVE the color!! Stopping by via Savvy Southern Style.
I Love, Love, Love the color of your front door!! It's amazing the difference it makes.

What a beautiful home–the blue door adds so much character to it! What a great idea! Love the blog, I'm your newest follower 🙂
love the "new" door, that's a great color, and i'm sure the whole entry really stands out now!
OMGosh! It looks so much better! So pretty. Thank you for sharing. Visiting from HOH. Would love it if you would share this at my Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House.
Hi Andrea, Isn't it nice to put your own touch to your home? Not long after we bought our first used home, we had it painted to make it ours. Yep, went from a light green to taupe on the part that was siding, and the shutters went from gray to a colonial red. The locals loved it and we still do years later. I'm visiting you from The Dedicated House's Make It Pretty Monday party. Your linked just ahead of me. Helen
Your door is gorgeous! It looks great with that wreath!
It's gorgeous! And the orange wreath looks so good against the door! Such a pop! I just love it!
LOVE the new paint color!! GORGEOUS!!
This color is beautiful! we're talking about painting our door, and I'm definitely going to show this color to my husband. Love it!
Love the color…totally different than the standard red or brown. It's perfect! I would love to have you stop by 'Or so she says…' and share your great ideas at the Saturday link party (runs until Tuesday night…tonight!)
I bought a new door color (Valspar too) last weekend and I'm excited to get rid of the ugly burgundy door. Love your color.
I totally LOVE your door! Featuring you! XO, Aimee
Aimee-THANK YOU! You just made my Friday!! 🙂
Beautiful color!! What a great pop of freshness from your front porch. 🙂
Your door looks amazing! I have been searching all over for the perfect color for my front door and now I think I've found it!
A quick question…did you also paint the interior side of the door?
Hey Ricki-I did not paint the interior door (yet)! I have blue/grey interior walls so this color would not look good inside my house. I have plans to paint the interior door black in the near future!
Thank you! 🙂
Do you have to do anything differently to paint a metal door?
So I went to go purchase this paint color and it was a forest green. Did not look anything like the pictures. HELP!
What's that trim color? LOVE!
Hi Bethany! The trim color is SW 7504 "Keystone Gray".
Thanks for the post! I really like the color. It makes the whole house pop! I was just talking to my sister yesterday about accent front doors (She has a purple front door, which actually looks really good!). She said that for some doors, with large cutouts, or just smaller doors, you can use the sample paint cans that are only around $3! Even if you have to use two of those cans, it will only come to $6!
Where did you buy your door?
I chose Valspar's Woodlawn Juniper in semi gloss for my front door. …
I love the door color! What is the name of the trim?
Thank you!
Where can I find this front door? Love it!!!
I fell in love with this paint color for your front door. I purchased it and painted my green house door. I so wanted to put it on my front door. So yesterday I was coloring pots with the color for a luncheon decorating using pots and my neighbor really liked it! So she had me put a pot against the front door ! Yes! So today is my second color and my hubby even likes it! thanks for sharing
Hi, I love your door color!! We are building our home right now and I want to paint our door that color, but I'm having trouble deciding on siding color….we will also have brick and stone but I was wondering if you have any suggestions….or if you have siding on your house and what color it is…thank you!!
I love the Woodlawn Juniper door color. Can you tell me what the color is on your trim?
