We don’t make homemade pizzas enough! They are so easy to customize and perfect for a night in or for entertaining. I recently made a homemade BBQ Chicken Pizza and it was a hit! Simply gather a few ingredients, bake, and enjoy pizza made at home. I used fresh, store bought pizza dough, making this super simple. Here’s how to make homemade BBQ chicken pizza.
One key to making this a success is using a pizza stone. Also using cornmeal to prevent the crust from sticking. It gives it extra flavor too!
We used Joe’s Kansas city BBQ sauce, but you could obviously use whatever you like best! We live in KC so this is a no-brainer for us! This one is sweet and a little spicy adding so much flavor.
I seasoned the chicken breast with a little steak seasoning and olive oil and my husband quickly grilled it. I think this made a huge difference with flavor on the pizza! You could use any sort of chicken you have on hand though!
BBQ Chicken Pizza:
Ingredients:
- Pizza Dough (I bought fresh dough from Trader Joe’s)
- Cornmeal (for dusting your pizza stone)
- BBQ Sauce (we used Joe’s Kansas City BBQ Sauce)
- Cooked Chicken (we grilled chicken breast on the grill)
- Mozzarella Cheese
- Red Onion
- Cilantro
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Place pizza stone in hot oven for a few minutes before assembling. This allows your pizza to cook more quickly and evenly.
- Take pizza out of hot oven. Dust your pizza stone with cornmeal before placing dough on top.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and place on pizza stone. The dough we used required the dough to be at room temperature.
- Add a thin layer of BBQ sauce on top of dough, leaving a little edge for the crust.
- Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over BBQ sauce.
- Add a layer of chopped chicken mixed with BBQ sauce.
- Add a thin layer of red onion and your pizza is ready to go into the oven.
- Bake at 450 degrees for about 15-20 minutes. Keep checking on your pizza as ovens vary. The pizza dough you use will also make a difference. You can experiment with your own oven and temperatures, just make sure your dough is cooked through!
- Top your pizza with cilantro once it is out of the oven and enjoy!!
My husband actually topped his Homemade BBQ Chicken Pizza with pineapple to give it another layer of flavor! This is a fun recipe to get kids involved too. I hope you will try this homemade BBQ chicken pizza. XO
