Steve and I have been married for 21 years (as of the publish date of this post) and we have never had any holiday decor in our bedroom. I decided this was the year to change that! Needless to say, I purchased a faux Christmas tree from Target in late October and put it up right away. It’s so nice to have the glow at night! We head up to bed early on nights we don’t have anything with the kids, so it’s nice to have a tree in the bedroom to enjoy while we read, watch tv, etc. Here is the look of a sparse faux Christmas tree.
Where to Purchase a Sparse Tree
I saw this tree come across as I was looking at Target holiday decor. The minimalistic look spoke to me and it was a good price for a smaller, pre-lit tree. I wanted something smaller that was going to be easy to put together and store away the rest of the year. This tree also looks a little less “faux’ that many cheap looking trees.
We always get real trees for our main space, so anything faux always scares me a little bit! A sparse tree essentially has less than full branches and you can see the trunk of the tree coming through. You can find more of these sparse trees online here!
Putting it Together
This tree took me eight minutes to set up from opening the box to putting the faux fur rug around the bottom! This exact tree comes in three sections. The bottom two sections have branches on hinges, so there is zero fluffing! The top portion needs fluffed slightly but it’s so small it takes no time at all. I decided I’m not going to decorate this tree. I’m going to keep it looking “natural” and enjoy the simplicity. It’s also less to put up, take down, and store!
Covering The Bottom of the Tree
This particular tree has a metal stand. I decided to cover it with a faux fur rug from IKEA that I’ve had forever. You could use a tree collar, blankets, tree skirt, etc! You can get a better look at the lights and trunk and branches here too.
Using an Amazon Smart Plug to Control the Lights
Because this tree didn’t come with a remote, I wanted to figure out a way to control the lights so I didn’t have to manually turn the tree on and off. I purchased an Amazon smart plug that is compatible with the Alexa app and set it up in no time. This way, I can turn the tree on and off from my phone. No getting out of bed before falling asleep! You can find that gadget here.
What do you think of the look of a faux sparse Christmas tree? I think it’s perfect for this space and for what we were looking for. Because I loved the ease of setting this up, I purchased another one to put on our covered porch this year! I usually do real trees on the porch but have decided it’s probably more economical to put faux in the front. Saves me the cost of throwing things out year after year and it’s no maintenance.
