How to Decorate Your Dining Room for the Holidays

We don’t use our dining room very often. Hardly at all! But it is the first room you see when you walk in the front door, so I like to keep it festive. Our Christmas tree sits in the middle of the living room and dining room, so I like to decorate the table and the bar cart area. The room is small, so keeping it simple feels right to me. Here is our dining room holiday decor this year!

Candle Holders

I used to thrift a lot more than I do now and you just know when to hold on to gems that you find. In this case, these brass candle holders! I’ve used these many different ways throughout the years. This year I’ve added them to the center of the dining room table. The best part is these can stay here all winter long!

As mentioned, I thrifted every last one of these. But, you could absolutely choose new, modern holders or mix and match whatever you have laying around in your stash. The dramatic effect is in the numbers here! Also, the height difference in the candle holders helps keep the eye moving. Here are some brass candle holder options.

Taper Candlesticks

You can find these everywhere (think craft stores, Walmart, Crate & Barrel, etc. I have a stash of them that I have used over the years. I’ve rounded up some options here. I was inspired by an image I saw on Pinterest with some jewel and warmer tones, so that is the direction I went with here. This would be pretty with all the same color as well! There is no right or wrong here, go with whatever you are feeling. In this case, these can stay here all winter long. They would have been perfect for fall too.

Bar Cart Decor

This bar cart is thrifted. It’s one of my favorite pieces in our home. It holds booze, cups, books, travel treasures, and this amazing lamp I won in an Instagram giveaway! The only items I added here for the holidays is a mirrored wreath and ribbon, a bowl full of metallic ornaments, and a JOY sign. Keeping it simple! I will probably keep the joy and wreath up during January as well and just remove the ornaments. Using items that feel festive for longer than 3 weeks is a win!

Accessories

The mirrored wreath is sadly sold out already! My daughter has one on her bedroom door as well. I just tied my own black satin ribbon to make it feel a little dressed up. The JOY sign was a random JOANN Fabric find from several years ago. You can pick up metallic ornaments everywhere. Just throw in a bowl (this is from our kitchen) and you have instant, inexpensive decor!

Overall, I want the dining room to feel cozy and festive without being over done. I keep the faux fur over the chairs all year long because I love the texture and coziness. Mostly, I love that I can leave most of this up through January. I hope you enjoyed our dining room holiday decor this year! My style is not “traditional”, so I hope you found this fun to look at!
