How to Style a Classic Fall Front Porch

It’s no secret that I love to decorate my porch! And I love all things plants and curb appeal. I love having a large porch to work with. I’m going to share a bunch of photos for inspiration and I will link what is possible. So much of my outdoor decor is old and reused year after year, so I can’t link everything! It’s finally starting to cool down in Kansas City, which will hopefully help transition my brain to fall. Here’s how to style a classic fall front porch. I’ll be adding some Halloween touches this weekend!

Mums & Pumpkins

A classic fall porch starts with mums and pumpkins! This year, all of mine are from Johnson Farms in the Kansas City area. I went with a variety of colors of mums and stuffed them into large pots I already had on hand. HACK: stagger heights of your pots by adding stools/stumps. These ferns are on cheap Ikea stools. Two of the mums are elevated with stools. These creates a cozy look around the door! Sometimes I add faux pumpkins to the porch, but I went with all real pumpkins this year.

Tip: Wash pumpkins with vinegar and water. Spray with clear coat spray paint to help preserve them. I tried this last year and my pumpkins lasted for weeks! This also helps seal them so water is less likely to penetrate them. It’s also supposed to keep the squirrels from enjoying them!

The ferns are leftover from my summer porch. They always last through October, so I just incorporate them. I actually had to trim the fronds this year after they got ginormous!

Lanterns & Flameless Candles

I grabbed these medium sized lanterns for a great price this year! I always add flameless candles that can be put on a timer so there is a nice glow at night. Make sure you wait until temps have cooled down to put these candles out. I had some melt and it ruined the concrete! You can find the lanterns and candles here.

Layered Rugs

I love the trend of the layered rugs. Because I have a covered porch, I feel comfortable using non-outdoor rugs. This striped one is from Homegoods from a few years ago. I reuse it often. The football doormat is a favorite of mine because we host our friends a lot to watch football! It fits with us. Here is a round of fall outdoor rugs.

Fall Wreath and Birch Sticks

There are so many pretty fall wreaths on the market! I love anything simple and classic looking. We cheer for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Kansas City Chiefs which both have yellow in the colors. This wreath is perfect for both teams. I tied a black ribbon to the wreath to give it a little something extra. I’ve done a fall wreath round up here.

The birch sticks are from a local plant nursery. Look around at your local garden centers. I use these for fall and winter on the porch. Simply lean against your windows/doors. Love the natural touch and pop of white they provide.

Rocking Chairs

Next to the front door area, we have a sitting area with rocking chairs and a small table. I also added some orange lantana in pots this year. Rocking chairs give this space a classic look. I always keep black and white striped pillows on them because they go with every single season and I love black and white so much! This outdoor rug is new this year. A rug underneath a sitting area helps ground and contain the space. Find rockers, pillows, and rug here!

Curb Appeal

You know I love some good curb appeal! I always want our home to look and feel inviting and cozy. Creating spaces I love is so important to me and it’s something I love investing time and energy into. I spend a lot of time in my yard, flower beds, mowing and edging, etc. A decorated porch makes everything feel “finished”.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you like my take on how to style a classic fall front porch! Almost everything just gets reused over time. I hope you found some inspiration!
