This post is a long time coming! I absolutely LOVE this chair so much, I bought it twice! Yep, it’s that good. A few years ago, we moved our dining table from a breakfast nook to the middle of the kitchen area. This created a space for a little nook by a bank of windows where the table used to be. I knew I wanted some seating in this spot because it is connected to the kitchen and I knew people would sit there. If you create a cozy nook, they will come! After using the chair for 18 months, we decided to get the same chair in a different fabric for our living room. Here’s my review of Crate & Barrel Gather Chair and a Half. Chair Description
This chair is actually a chair and a half. It’s not quite a single chair and not quite a loveseat. One of the main reasons I was sold on this chair was it’s unique size. Both places in our home where we have these chairs aren’t huge spaces. But, we did want something that could fit two people easily. These chairs are just the perfect size.
We have a Crate&Barrel store in our town so I was actually able to see a version of the original one we bought on the floor. The one in store was just the singular chair. I was able to sit in it, look and feel, etc. After seeing the fabric in person, we ordered online. For the second chair, the blue tone, we chose a different fabric and color. The store has fabric samples you can look at or you can order these samples online. There are over 250 fabric options to choose from so you can get exactly what you want!
Fabrics Chosen
The first chair we purchased for the kitchen nook area, we went with an in stock color. It is the least expensive option, it’s neutral, and I loved the fabric. Because it’s not custom, you are likely to get it delivered sooner as well. We went with Monet Champagne for the chair. I have spilled coffee on this chair, we sit in it every single day, and it still looks brand new. The fabric is so good.
When we purchased the second chair, we wanted a pop of color! After ordering a few samples and looking at the swatches in store, we went with Mabel Midnight. This is a custom color so it’s more expensive. It also took longer to receive it. I think it was worth the weight! The color is so rich. It’s just the pop of neutral color our living room needed.
Why We Love the Gather Chair and a Half
- It’s the perfect size. Fits two adults comfortably. Fits me and my two teens tight. It’s like a cozy loveseat without the bulk. We love being able to fit two people on these chairs as a family of four. Now, when we sit in the living room, two people can sprawl out on the sofa, and two people can cozy up in the chair.
- It’s easy to clean. I use a soft cloth and a little Folex when needed. The blue fabric has more texture to it, so I half to use a lint roller when it attracts blanket fuzz, etc.
- The cushions don’t sag. We’ve had one chair for over two years and it doesn’t look like it’s been sat in. You get what you pay for here.
- Fabric choices allow for customization. We were worried about having the same chair so close to each other. Because of the different fabric color and texture, it’s hard to know it’s even the same chair.
- The cushion on the back and the bottom both can be removed and unzipped if needed. The base of the chair is separate from the cushions.
- Comfortable while still being chic looking! A win win for someone who likes to incorporate both into their home!
Accessories for the Gather Chair and a Half
Because these get sat in daily, I only wanted to add one pillow each to these chairs. I love a great pillow, but of course they can be cumbersome to keep taking off and putting back!
This pillow is everything! Soft, chic, makes a statement. It was expensive but it’s like a piece of jewelry for the chair. I’m obsessed with it. You can find it here.
The neutral chair has a fun pillow cover from a local shop in Kanas City called Textured Haus. I love the dimension and texture and fun pop it adds to the chair.
Before we even ordered these chairs, we had some taller ottomans that we used to put our feet up. We are total put your feet up people around here! Each chair has one ottoman near it so the person or people using the chair can put their feet up. These get used every single day! So worth it to be comfortable in your own space. These ottomans are so great, we actually have four in the basement we use as a coffee table and pull apart for seating and to put our feet up.
