Before our recent kitchen remodel, I had pull-out spice racks on either side of the microwave (above the stove). It was very convenient and a good use a space. When we remodeled our kitchen, the cabinet and spice racks above the stove were removed and replaced with a more decorative vent hood. Therefore, all of my spices needed to be displaced to a new location. I ended up finding space in our small-ish walk-in pantry, but I wanted the spices to look more attractive. Here is how to organize spices using glass jars. This project takes minimal effort and looks so good in the end!
The Spices Before
I never had a system for our spices, even when we had the pull out spice racks. They were kept in the original jars and randomly placed. I kind of just remembered where they were. After moving the spices to the pantry, I knew I needed a better system. And definitely wanted to make it more aesthetically pleasing!
Spice Organization Plan
If you have been around for any length of time, you know I love a good system and home organization. This project is a long time coming! I found space in the pantry to place tiered racks along one shelf. Here, I store canned goods and now the spices. I found the tiered racks at Homegoods, but I have also linked some here! They are very inexpensive and provide just enough extra room that they work well in a small pantry.
After securing the tiered racks, I wanted the spices to all look uniform. I also wanted them to be alphabetized for easy access! As with most things in our lives anymore, it’s Amazon for the win! Finding glass spice jars was easy and there are endless options. I finally decided on a set that was a good price and I also liked the way the labels looked.
Organize Spices Process
The glass jar spice kit from Amazon makes this so easy! It comes with the jars and labels and a small silicone funnel that makes it easy to transfer the spices to the jars. As son as I received the kit, I washed the jars and started transferring! The particular kit I ordered came with 36 glass jars. I used almost all of them, so make sure you know how many you need before ordering!
The amount of labels is insane! There are spices listed on these labels that I have never heard of! It also comes with several black labels so you can write in your own.
The labels are easy to just peel and stick. If you mess up, simply peel back and stick on again.
After I washed the jars, transferred the spices, and added the labels, I decided to add one more piece of organization. I wanted to know when the spices expired, since I was getting rid of the original containers. These round labels fit perfectly on the bottom of the jars! I handwrite the expiration date. When I refill with new spices, I will simply add a new round sticker right over the top of the old one!
Final Spice Organization
I’m absolutely loving the way the spices look in the glass jars! It’s so pleasing to the eye and so easy to grab what I need! I alphabetized the spices for an added layer of organization. It makes my heart and eyes happy! Using the three tiered racks really help with being able to see the labels better too.
