September came fast and furious for me this year! Time is flashing before my eyes daily! Before I go all gaudy with my Halloween decor, I wanted to change things up on the porch for the month of September. I realize it’s still summer, and it’s still hot, but my mind is ready for fall. Here is how to style a front porch for early fall!
Kimberly Queen Ferns
My Kimberly Queen Ferns always look good through September so I always incorporate them. They bring the drama! The height comes from setting them on top of cheap IKEA stools. I grab these ferns in May and they last all the way through the fall! They will get spray painted black for Halloween!
Large Mums
I was at Home Depot getting some items for another project and there happened to be two huge, perfectly round mums in the same color, so I grabbed them. They are kind of a reddish lavender color. When they bloom, they will be so striking! I’m reusing the same white pots I had the hydrangeas in this summer. They are the perfect size to just plop the mums in.
Layered Door Mats
Whomever came up with the idea of the layered door mat deserves a gold star! Ha! I love this look so much! You can totally personalize your mats and there are so many good combinations. I’m reusing this coir door mat, but I did purchase the new black rug from Homegoods recently. This isn’t an outdoor rug, but we have a covered space so they usually stay nice for a long time.

Faux Pumpkins
I’m not usually one for faux anything (besides fur rugs), but I decided to purchase some faux pumpkins for the porch this year. Being able to use them over and over again appeals to me. After Halloween, I toss all of our real pumpkins, so these will get used again in November (until Christmas). I’m hoping to just use them every year! Some are from Target, some from Michael’s, and some from Walmart! I love the earthy colors!
A couple of these are ceramic and the others are craft pumpkins which are lighter in weight. So far, so good with them not blowing all over.

Outdoor Lantern
This lantern is been around for YEARS! I grabbed a battery operated candle at Homegoods that is set with a timer so it turns on and off on its own. Mostly, I like the added bit of layering. We always keep string lights around the door frame, so this area is always lit up!

Fall Textured Wreath
I don’t usually put a wreath on the front door in the summer, but I like the added texture for an early fall porch. This one was a random find at Ross! Initially I couldn’t decide if I liked it or not, but once I got it home, I loved the soft colors and whimsical texture! It really pops off of our black door and it feels unique to me. Rocking Chairs + Succulent Bowl
We keep these rocking chairs out all year and I honestly don’t change the pillows either. The black and white stripe literally goes with every season! I moved my DIY succulent and cactus planter to the little table in the middle for something different than more mums. The simplicity here makes me happy.

That is how to style a front porch for early fall! It feels simple, yet a little dramatic, which makes me happy. The addition of the faux pumpkins this year also makes it feel a little more seasonal. I’ve never had a corn husk before, but picked one up at Home Depot when I got my mums. It’s a fun little neutral add for more texture. This is simply leaned and not secured and it seems to be holding its own!
We will enjoy this for a few weeks before it’s time to bust out the spiders and spray paint the ferns black! Yep, I did that last year and it was awesome! XO
