How to Keep Rugs In Place Using Carpet Tape

I purchased two runners for our upstairs hallway last year and I was getting frustrated that they moved around when we walked on them. These rugs are thick and heavy and not easy to put back in place. So began the quest of figuring out how to keep rugs in place. I purchased some double-sided sticky pads at TJ Maxx and they worked for a bit, but the rugs eventually started sliding around. I tried adding duct tape to the bottom. Nope. After talking about this on my Instagram stories, a reader suggested I try carpet tape. I purchased a roll and haven’t looked back! It’s been working!

This sticky tape comes in a large roll and is simple to use. It’s also inexpensive and should last me forever, so that’s also a bonus!

We recently purchased a new living room rug and the edges were curling up as seen in this photo. Carpet tape to the rescue!

How it Works:

The process is simple! First, cut a section of tape and adhere straight to the floor under the edge of the rug. Next, peel back the tape cover so that the other side of the sticky tape is exposed. Lastly, push down on the rug allowing it to stick to the tape. Be sure to rub over the top of the carpet back and forth so it gets nice a stuck!

You can go around the edges as needed. I only used the tape around the corners for the animal print runners in the hallway and that was enough. The tape has been working for months!

To make sure I wanted to keep using this product, I peeled off sections of the tape to make sure it didn’t do any damage to our hardwood floors. No damage! You just pull up on the tape to remove and it doesn’t leave any residue.
