I’m sharing our early fall front porch today! I like to switch things up on the porch towards the beginning of September. That’s usually when I can start to find mums and pumpkins. Although it seems sort of silly to decorate for fall right now when the temps in Kansas City have been in the high 80’s all month. It’s finally supposed to cool down starting today. Here’s how to decorate a colorful fall front porch.
Colorful Plants
I usually start to decorate the porch for Halloween a week or so into October, so for our “fall” porch, I like to keep things pretty simple. The hydrangeas from our summer porch were still going strong, so I decided to keep them and incorporate them into this fall porch. I like the way the summer meets fall here, and I love the wine colored mums against the pink hydrangeas. These ginormous red mums are from Costco! They were absolutely huge this year. Such a pretty statement.
Colorful Wreath
I made this wreath for fall and it’s a favorite of mine. I’m not typically drawn to traditional fall decor/colors, so I thought this was a nice transition with hues of plum, blush, wine, pink, and some greenery.
Seating
I love having a covered porch so much! We use our porch often for coffee sipping, drinks with friends, watching kids play. Comfortable seating is a must! We have had these black rocking chairs for years. We previously lived in the south for 10 years, and I have always been drawn to a lovely porch with rockers. It seems so inviting!
I decided to keep the black/white striped pillows on the rockers for fall. They seem to show up the best when looking at our home from the street. I added a blanket scarf to each of the rockers (Target Dollar Spot) for some texture and color. These colors play off the mums/hydrangeas/wreath. You can never go wrong with stripes and plaid!
Pumpkins + Kale
I picked up this little black table recently at Target (a $10 score)! It’s big enough to display a plant and big enough to set a drink down. Grocery store pumpkins and a kale plant round out this little area. Simple and chic and unfussy!
On the weekends in the fall our flag situation looks like this…Go Hawkeyes!
And you can see that I’ve been moving pumpkins around and adding new ones! I equally love orange and white pumpkins.
And here is a final shot of our porch from the street. I love curb appeal! One of my favorite things to do is yard work and maintaining and yard and flowers and landscaping. The reality is that most people who drive/walk by your home will never step foot inside the front door, so it makes sense to decorate the outside of your home too!
Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out how to decorate a colorful fall front porch! Cheers to fall and porch rocking! XO

Hello! I actually live in Kansas, but we are huge Iowa Hawkeyes! Midwest all the way! 🙂
The fact that you love gardening and playing with flowers is evident in your beautiful lawn and lovely florals. You've placed just the right amount of pumpkins and fall decor on your porch so that its gorgeous architecture shines though. Love those rockers and blanket scarves – scarves really do make the best throws this time of year.
Thanks for stopping by Lori! I want to hoard all the blanket scarves – ha!
What a beautiful home and front porch! Those huge mums look incredible outside your house. Lovely job making your space welcoming for fall.
Thanks Jamie! It's finally cooler and feels like fall, so hopefully those mums make it awhile!

SO pretty! Those striped pillows are perfection and I love all of the fun colors you chose!
Your fall porch if colorfully fabulous! The mums are the best we have seen by-far! Happy fall!
Your mums are outstanding, as are your crisp black rockers. All together with your cabbage and pumpkins, a perfect place to enjoy not just for fall, but anytime!
Love your idea of decorating outdoors because so many that drive by never stop foot inside. The mums are amazing! I have never seen them so big! And I'm checking out that Target Hot Spot! I've been looking for cheap plaid to add to our fall decor.
