How to Create Apple Shaped Cupcakes

Kate was due to bring snack to preschool last week, so I decided to make her class some apple shaped cupcakes.  They are so eye catching, adorable, and so appropriate for this time of year. The original inspiration post can be found here. Here’s how to create apple shaped cupcakes.

How to Create the Apple Shape

These apple shaped cupcakes are super simple to make. They key to making these cupcakes look like apples is to make the indent in the cupcake holder prior to baking. I’ve seen marbles used, but I didn’t have any, so I used little tin foil balls. You could use anything that won’t melt! Simply place behind the cupcake liner before filling to create an indent. Then bake!

Items Needed:

All you need to create these apple shaped cupcakes is a box cake mix (or homemade if you prefer), frosting, red food coloring, pretzel sticks, and green gum drops. I couldn’t find green gum drops, but I found these fruit slices at Dollar Tree.

Use red food coloring to dye your frosting. I’ve since learned that gel food coloring is best to create a vibrant red color, but what you see here is liquid dye. Mine still turned out a little pinkish, but they looked close enough!

After your cupcakes are cooled and frosted, you can add the “stem and leaf”. I broke a pretzel stick in half and slid it in the top. Add the gum drop and that’s it!  So cute and easy! They really do look apple shaped too.

Kate couldn’t wait to show her teachers and share them with her friends!  I hope you enjoyed how to create apple shaped cupcakes and will try them out. Happy Fall! XO
