I am very slowly trying to put our office space together in the 5th bedroom off of our mudroom. This room used to be the guest bedroom, and several months ago we decided to turn it into an office with two desks and storage. This is becoming one of my favorite spaces in our home. It gets bright light, and has two pretty windows that look out into the backyard. This is where I blog, pay bills, email, work, etc. I wanted to add a personal touch to my desk area. Here is how to make a DIY fabric covered pin board.
Items Needed to Make a Fabric Covered Pin Board
For this project, I started with a cork board that I found at a thrift store for $5. It is 2 ft by 3 ft in size with a black background and silver trim. I originally thought I would just leave the black and paint the edge white. After trying that, I decided I still didn’t love it. I knew I just needed to cover it in fabric to soften it.
After doing some research and looking at many photos online, I found myself being very drawn to a neutral backdrop with lots of color on the board. I purchased 1 yard of a cheap canvas material because I knew very little of the fabric would actually show once I filled up the board. Simply wrap your fabric around the cork board and use a staple gun to secure on the back. Wrap the corners as you would if you were wrapping a gift! The board and trim were all one piece, so I wrapped the entire surface of the board.
Total Cost
Between the $5 board and the $4 fabric, this project came in cheap and easy! I love the impact and color it brings to the space! To hang the items, I use shiny gold thumb tacks from Dollar Tree to pin things to the board and keep that part of it cohesive.
Every time I thrift I see cork boards for sale! I love how this DIY fabric covered pin board adds personality and uniqueness to the space! XO
